Murder At The Met
For Halloween, I had a class assignment to create an event concept at the MET centered around a murder mystery party for patrons. For the art direction, I aimed to recreate a VHS horror aesthetic, inspired by films like The Blair Witch Project. As part of the packaging, I thought it would be exciting to send patrons a custom VHS tape, with the video revealing the event's location. Most of the visual effects were created using After Effects and Premiere Pro.
Inspiration
When people think of adding a horror element to an art museum, usually the theme would be around masquerade masks or a zodiac letter type of artstyle, but I wanted the project to be totally unique and more relatable to people my age, so that is why I got inspired from VHS/Raw footage horror movies.
Storyboarding
My initial idea was to present the perspective of a stalker who eerily records their crimes. Inspired by the over-the-top 3D intros often seen on old VHS tapes, I incorporated that aesthetic into the concept. Additionally, I planned to film various areas of the MET, including statues and hallways, to enhance the unsettling and creepy atmosphere.
Taking Footage
I went early in the morning when the museum just opened to finish gathering all the footage. The reason I came early was I wanted the feeling of emptyness to be the theme of the eeriness.
